 King's Lynn

An illustrated book with a written history

Inspiration

I began creating a collection of King’s Lynn drawings in 2016; the rich and varied architecture of the town very appealing to draw. Then, whilst invigilating for an art exhibition at St Nicholas chapel, inspiration came as to what I could do with my growing collection. I would put my drawings into a book, describing the town’s rich history through illustrations and writing.

Over the following years I drew over 50 drawings for the book, went on walking tours and researched the history of the town through books, articles, historical records and museum visits. I visited the town to explore, sketch and take photos. The location sketches were important in informing the studio drawings.

King’s Lynn is a fascinating town from how it formed geographically to the rich history of trade and religion. My hope is that this book will encourage people to visit the town and to explore its history and beautiful architecture.
